Winter White and Mint Tweed

It’s always a struggle for me to not default to an all black outfit. Black is not only chic, but also often slimming. And who doesn’t doesn’t love to look both chic AND skinny?!

Anyway, so this morning was not unlike others and my instinct was to pull out something black to where. Instead, I decided, the complete opposite of all black is what I would aim for. So, that’s how this outfit came about. 🙂

I purchased this white drop-waist dress a while back for about $16 from Asos.com and the jacket from Kohl’s for $11. $11 y’all! For a chanel-esque tweed jacket! LOVE. The necklace if from Tarjay, $16 and purchased around Christmas time. The boots are super old and to be honest, not my first choice for this outfit. Ideally, I would have wanted to wear over-the-knee LIGHT gray boots, but since I didn’t have them and it’s 30-ish degrees out, I went with these. Here are some of the ones I would have worn instead:

As you can see, my ideal boots are WAY to expensive, so I went with my $30 boots instead. 😀

Menswear Inspired Look for the Office

One of the things that I envy the most about menswear is its simplicity. A crisp white shirt, slacks, and belt often are enough to make a man look ‘put together’. I don’t own too many crisp white shirts, often because they don’t seem to be made well for curvy, petite women like me. That is, until I spotted this white shirt from Target:

I love the length because it can be worn with leggings or skinny jeans (as shown), or tucked into slacks like I have done below. I also love the fact that the buttons are covered. I just feel like it makes the shirt look polished. Exposed buttons aren’t necessarily bad, but I definitely prefer the look of hidden buttons better.

Valentine’s Day with Verizon

Perhaps you have been super busy like my hubby and I have been, and have not had any time to make any Valentine’s Day plans. In fact, he works pretty late tonight, so we may just have to spend a quite night in.

Thankfully, technology makes that pretty easy and enjoyable to do nowadays. I was recently able to get my hands on the oh-so-coveted Samsung Galaxy Tab, and am loving it! Not only would it make a great gift for your significant other (hint, hint!), but if you already own one, provides a way to create some low-key, but still romantic at-home entertainment for the day or evening. Use your tablet or smartphone to help you plan your evening with some of the following ideas:

AT HOME MOVIE DATE

Set up your own movie theater and watch all your favorite movies from almost anywhere. Most of the newer DVD releases come with a digital copy, so you can keep your movie library on your Verizon smartphone or tablet. If it doesn’t, download your favorite flick using one of these apps.

V-DAY COUPLES GAME NIGHT

Try hosting a couples night – invite your friends over to play one of these board game apps.

ROMANTIC DINNER AT HOME

Perhaps you want to put all of your energy towards an amazing dinner at home. There are lots of recipe sites to draw inspiration from, but my favorite by far is Pinterest. It’s easy to search through, provides lots of visuals and links to blogs/sites with step by step instructions. A simple ‘Valentine’s day dinner romantic’ search yielded the following results:
