Product Reviews – What’s in my makeup bag?

If you watch my instastories, you know that I just got this makeup bag in the mail this week and it sold out so I wasn’t able to link this exact one, but I was able to link a similar one. Will try to link it again if you missed it! Anyway, I tried out the following products this past weekend and really like them! Here’s what I got and specifically what I thought of each:

1. @Lancomeofficial Click & Glow Highlighter. I got the illuminating pen in three different shades: 01, gold hue, 04 bronze hue, and 02 copper hue. All are great against my skin and although meant to serve as highlighters, they actually also double as eye shadow! Def worth trying. 👍🏼

2. @yslbeauty Touche Eclat Neutralizer. I am obsessed with this. I got the Bisque and wear it under my concealer and also apply it to acne scars that left dark spots on my face, and it really helps to hide the darkness. I use it under concealer or my tinted moisturizer and it’s light enough that it can be used in conjunction and doesn’t look cakey when paired with other products.

3. @yslbeauty Eye Duo Smoker. Also love this. The box comes with instructions if you’re a makeup newbie like me and don’t know how to use it. 🙈 I’ve used the charcoal color as a liner and loved it. It’s super smooth tho so make sure to wear either primer underneath it or apply setting powder after applying.

4. @cosmedix Illuminate & Lift neck and decollete treatment. Obsessed. 😍 If you’ve never tried this line, you are missing out. It is a bit pricey, but a little goes a long way and gosh, I just cant say enough about it. Super hydrating moisturizing. This product is especially wonderful if you’re on the older side like me, but great for dry skin and those looking to simply maintain their youthful appearance by implementing preventive care. A+ for this one!

5. @sjtraveler Makeup Bag in Java. This bag is gonna be bae. It’s sizable, super cute, so well made, and lined in the cutest pink on the inside. There are similar styles still in stock and will try to link those if possible!

How to make your manicure last two weeks

The 2-week mani.png

Nearly two weeks ago, a few friends of mine and I went and got manicures and pedicures.  We all know that pedi’s pretty much are indestructible, but mani’s are a completely different story.  I don’t often go to the salon to get a mani, but it is fun to go as a group, so off I went.

One of my MAJOR pet peeves about paying for a salon mani is that my mani has often smudged by the time I get in my car (GRRR!!), or chipped less than a week later.  SO annoying, because, hello – mani’s are NOT cheap.  But, this time, I decided I would bring along my own nail polish and see if it would last a bit longer.

I had the Essie Nail Polish Summer Collections –s’il vous play’ and ‘clothing optional’ to choose from!

I realized that salons, in attempt to make their polishes last longer, add a diluent – which yes, protects the polish from hardening or clumping – BUT affects the quality and robustness of your mani.  So, taking your polish is always the best course of action.  This time, I had several to choose from, so I picked a cute coral/reddish hue.

Anyway, I’m nearly two weeks in and the mani has stood the test of time and I credit the following things with helping:

  1. Taking my own bottle of polish to the salon.  The bottom and top coats seemed fine, but taking a new bottle of polish seemed to make a big difference.

  2. About three days later, adding another coat of topcoat at home.  I like this one.

  3. Depending on how fast your nails grow, trimming them 1.5 weeks in and adding another layer of top coat.

That’s it!  Let me know if you decide to try these tips and how they work for you.  What tips do you have for making your mani’s last??  Share them with me below in the comments section.

A Carefree trip to LA

Last month, I took a quick trip to LA.  I was invited to give a talk to a group of women about the disparities that exist in cardiovascular disease, particularly among minority women. Coincidentally, the We All Grow Summit was happening that same weekend, and I was fortunate to have my attendance at the Summit sponsored by Carefree!

They were a part of the swag I got at the We All Grow Summit (I forgot to include them in this photo because they were already packed up in my bag!!), so I left LA with two packages of liners!  I don’t know about you, but Carefree is a brand I have loved for over 20 years now. Carefree liners were among my first liner purchases and continue to be a staple in my home to date. I also always make sure to pack them on trips.  Here’s what I packed for my trip to LA.

These liners have been useful for the usual monthly reasons, but they have also been a part of my workout prep and were especially useful after the birth of my two sons.  I especially love them for workouts, and most specifically when wearing clothing that might not otherwise disguise workout-related perspiration!  Was that TMI??  Oh wellz.  LOL. Other women I know use them on a regular basis, and incorporate them into their usual morning routine.  It really just helps give that added boost of confidence when you know you don’t have to worry about one extra thing throughout the day.

One of the things I love about these liners is that they come in both a scented and unscented version.  I personally prefer the unscented version.  I always carry at least a couple of pads in my bag.  I have a transparent “makeup bag” that I keep in every bag I carry (if size permits), and add 1-2 pads for emergencies.  They are rather inconspicuous, so if someone peeks in my bag, it’s not completely obvious that I’m carrying around a panty liner!

If you’ve never tried Carefree liners, I highly encourage you to try them!  They are SO inexpensive and so worth having around.  Carefree® Acti-Fresh® liners can be purchased at Walmart if you have one near you. There is a coupon for $2 off any 2 Carefree® products and $.50 off any 1 Carefree® product (expires 6/24): if you decide you want to try them out, or if you already use them, to replenish your stock!  Let me know in the comments below what your thoughts are on these liners, or if perhaps, you’ve never tried them, but encouraged to do so after this post.

Otherwise, don’t forget to keep up with my daily outfits and other shenanigans on Instagram!

Until next time!  Stay ‘Chic’!
