New Year, New Style

If you’re like me, you take each new year as an opportunity to reset and start over again at baseline.  Part of that usually involves evaluating my style and figuring out if there is anything I want to change.  This is what I came up with:

In general, my style is business casual with some flair. I take risks.  I experiment with prints, pattern-mixing, and cover a variety of fashion genre’s.  See below for examples:

This year, I think I am going to aim for looks that are a bit more classic…though with hints of flair from time to time.  I don’t really have a formula for outfits.  Most days, it’s whatever I pull out of my closet in the 30 minutes it takes me to get ready every morning.  Most of the time, however, I will have perused Pinterest and Instagram the night before for inspiration.  Here is one of the looks I found on Pinterest that inspired one of my outfits for work in 2016.  Check out the Pinterest look and then the look I came up with below:

Pinterest and Instagram can help you come up with some ideas for outfits using existing items in  closet, or help you focus your shopping for pieces that might be missing from your wardrobe.  Be sure to follow along on Instagram if you aren’t already!  I also have an entire Pinterest board dedicated to career looks and career articles should you want to follow along for inspiration.

I hope everyone has gotten off to a great start this year!  I’m personally excited for what this year brings.  Hopefully that includes a lot of fun new clothes, shoes, and accessories! Haha!

Chic in Leopard Spots

Last year, around this time, I purchased a leopard faux fur coat from the now non-existent Piperlime.com.  They were a sister online store to Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, etc.  Without going into much detail, and much to the dismay of many a fashionista, Piperlime shut down its servers some time last year leaving many to wander the internet in search for items they once carried.  Among them, the leoapard coat above.

A Fresh Start with Click Salon and Monkee’s of Mountain Brook

Last year (wow, can you believe I’m saying that?!) I had a cinderella moment.  Actually, I felt a more like Pretty Woman, you know.  Except without the whole hooker thing… LOL.  Do you remember that line from She’s All That, circa 1999??  I die, haha!  And, I digress…

Anywho!  The experience was magical.  First I went to Click Salon in Pepper Place (Birmingham, AL).  It’s tucked away in the back part of the Pepper Place complex, although I supposed one could argue it is actually the front of the shopping center.

I had an appointment with Lindsey and she was FANTASTIC.  I needed color and a trim, so she got right on it.  Oh yeah, and btw, they serve wine!!  So, I had a glass, obvi. 😉

Next up, was shopping at Monkee’s of Mountain Brook.  I had never been in the store before, so I was excited to peruse their inventory.  I have to say, I was impressed with the mix of middle-to-high priced inventory. Everything from $20 fur poms to $400 Tom Ford sunnies.  Perfect for the woman who likes to mix it up!  I tried on a variety of items in the store and walked away with an amazing sheared rabbit fur vest from 525 Luxe.  I’m in love with it.  I left coveting the black dress with tulle shoulders, but may have to pick it up another time. 😉  Check out some of the fab items Monkee’s carries, below.

I had an amazing time and so can you!! If you are looking for a fresh start in 2016, perhaps these two places can provide just what you need.  Click Salon can give your mane the treatment it deserves, and then you can hop over to Monkee’s for a makeover!  Melissa Cunningham-Campbell is the owner of Monkee’s, but also an excellent fashion advisor if you are looking for some guidance.  A side-note about the store:  They occasionally carry vintage Chanel, so if you are in the market, make sure to let Melissa know!  She will take care of you!
